Omega Medical Imaging Competes Against GE And Siemens — And WinsOmega Medical Imaging Inc. in Sanford — which competes against global giants like General Electric and Siemens — has big growth plans.
Omega designs and builds X-ray C-arms used by doctors doing cardiac intervention, like putting a balloon into a patient’s heart to open a blocked vessel, as well in interventional endoscopy.
“We’re a niche player, about 12 people,” said Brian Fleming, Omega’s president and one of the owners. “We see ourselves, our expertise being in interventional imaging. So we’ll stick to that niche. Our focus is on specialized tools to help doctors do interventions in the body, so we really see a very long runway of opportunities.”
The company has about $6 million in revenue currently, Fleming said, but expects to grow to more than $50 million in five years. That also would involve growing the payroll to be more than 60 employees, including engineers.
“A good chunk of the jobs will be R&D,” Fleming said. “Some of the growth will be organic, some will be mergers and acquisitions.”
And the growth plan got a little more juice this year, as the Florida Hospital Center for Interventional Endoscopy selected Omega over multinational firms.
“We really wanted to create this partnership with a local company to create innovation in GI imaging and further advance health care,” said Scott Bond, director of the Florida Hospital center. “We’re in a partnership with them to create the ability to further advance the imaging [with] 3-D technology.”
