Indiana University Committed to Advancing Interventional Endoscopy with Omega

For over 10 years, Omega Medical Imaging has been a close partner with the gastroenterology team at Indiana University. In 2014, IU confirmed its commitment to advancing interventional endoscopy by replacing its tilt C-arm fluoroscopy systems with three E-View systems from Omega. The E-View is the only lab designed with features exclusively developed for ERCP and image-guided endoscopic GI procedures. In 2023, IU upgraded its labs to the E-View.AI – the only X-ray system that is FDA-cleared to provide proven radiation reduction of up to 84%.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Department of Medicine at the IU School of Medicine has a distinguished tradition of innovation and education with demonstrated excellence in patient care. The Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy Program is world-renowned. Few programs can say their patients come from all over the country and from around the world. IU can.

IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis is recognized as a leader in technology and is at the forefront of innovation.  IU is known worldwide for performing complex ERCP procedures and participating in research that has shaped the treatment of pancreas and bile duct diseases. The team at IU Health is one of the national leaders in the number of ERCP procedures performed each year.

“We have been very happy with the Omega fixed fluoroscopy units in our world–class, multi-room advanced endoscopy program at IU Health University Hospital,” said Dr. Mark Gromski, Director of Advanced Endoscopy. “This technology is the best in the world and we appreciate the radiation reduction that our AI systems provide us. We expect high-quality, predictable results throughout the day, seven days a week, and Omega has delivered.”

Unlike general diagnostic imaging systems, the Omega E-View.AI provides features specifically optimized for ERCP and GI procedures:

  • ERCP motorized table for better patient positioning
  • Large field-of-view flat-panel detector offers superior image quality
  • Exclusive scatter radiation protection for staff
  • Pivots out of the way for full patient access and non-X-ray procedures

The E-View.AI also offers several advantages that other systems cannot:

  • AI detects the doctor’s region of interest – allowing for hands-free operation
  • Maintains the full field of view (FOV) while delivering the highest level of image quality for the region of interest (ROI)
  • Automatically reduces radiation exposure to patients and staff by up to 84%

The Omega E-View.AI is a complete imaging lab that combines the C-arm, patient table, imaging system, and display modules to form a fully integrated system to enable optimal clinical results for advanced endoscopy programs like IU Health.

With more than 3,000 ERCP and 2,500 EUS procedures performed annually,  IU Health is one of the highest-volume endoscopic centers in the country. Multiple procedure rooms with multiple E-View.AI systems help IU Health University Hospital deliver world-class patient care and safety.
