Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, continues its commitment to advanced, patient-centered care with the installation of the E-View.AI image-guided endoscopy system from Omega Medical Imaging.
For nearly 40 years, Banner Desert has served families throughout Mesa and Arizona’s East Valley. The hospital is part of Banner Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, with 33 hospitals and more than 400 outpatient locations serving communities across six states. Headquartered in Phoenix, Banner Health combines advanced clinical care, research, medical education, and community-based services through an integrated healthcare network.
As one of Arizona’s largest and most advanced hospitals, Banner Desert serves as a tertiary referral center equipped to manage some of the region’s most complex medical cases. The hospital combines advanced technology with compassionate care across a broad range of specialties.
Banner Desert’s multidisciplinary endoscopy team provides patients with less invasive alternatives to traditional diagnostic procedures and surgery. In addition to routine upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, the program offers a comprehensive range of advanced therapeutic procedures, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic mucosal resection, balloon enteroscopy, enteral stenting, and endoscopic therapies for Barrett’s esophagus.
The addition of the Omega E-View.AI further strengthens the program’s ability to perform complex, image-guided endoscopic procedures with technology developed specifically for the needs of the modern GI lab.
Banner Desert is the second hospital in Arizona to install an E-View.AI system, following Banner Gateway Medical Center, which introduced the state’s first system in 2024. These installations demonstrate Banner Health’s continued investment in advanced imaging and radiation safety throughout its Arizona network.
Unlike conventional fluoroscopy systems adapted from other clinical specialties, E-View.AI is purpose-built for ERCP and advanced image-guided endoscopy. The system combines a large field-of-view flat-panel detector, an ERCP-specific patient table, integrated scatter radiation protection, and AI-guided Region of Interest technology designed to block unnecessary radiation at the source.
E-View.AI automatically detects and follows the physician’s region of interest, dynamically limiting radiation outside the area required for the procedure while preserving visibility of the surrounding anatomy. This hands-free technology has been shown to reduce radiation exposure by up to 84% while maintaining image quality and clinical workflow – providing measurable protection for patients, physicians, and staff.
The project was advanced through the leadership of Mohit Girotra, MD, who leads the advanced endoscopy program at Banner Desert, and Neil Sharma, MD, Senior Director of Digestive Health Services at Banner Health. Their shared vision is helping Banner build a premier advanced endoscopy program across its network – one that combines clinical expertise, purpose-built technology, and a strong commitment to patient and staff safety.
